How to Manage Anxiety: Keep Calm

Tech

Belgian citizens looking to visit New Zealand short-term for tourism or business purpose require a New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority, or NZeTA.

Travelling to New Zealand has now become easier for foreign tourists since its authorities implemented the New Zealand Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) for visa-exempt nationals.

Together with the New Zealand eTA, the government also incorporated an International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL) in order for visitors to contribute to protecting the environment as well as maintaining the overall infrastructure they will enjoy during their visit.

The NEW ZEALAND VISA FOR BELGIAN CITIZENS is valid for a period of 2 years, while each maximum stay cannot exceed a total of 90 consecutive days. The IVL, however, will be paid only once (when submitting the eTA request) for the whole duration of the New Zealand eTA validity.

The online application for the NZeTA for Belgium is simple and quick to complete by answering a few basic personal questions.

Upon approval, the applicant will receive the NZeTA via email.

Do Belgian Citizens need an eTA for New Zealand?

Belgium passport holders can enjoy visa-free entry to 184 countries, including New Zealand. Starting October 1st, 2019, Belgian nationals must have a valid eTA to visit the country. The same also applies to eTA NZ for cruise travellers.

The eTA for NZ is not a visa, which means that Belgians still enjoy visa-free status. However, obtaining an electronic authorisation prior to departure is a mandatory requirement for travel.

eTA New Zealand benefits for Belgian passport holders

The eTA NZ for Belgian applicants benefit from seamless border control processes in New Zealand as well as the elimination of potential security risks, as New Zealand authorities are able to better track and identify visa-exempt visitors.

The NZeTA for Belgian citizens is also helpful for travellers because they can enjoy multiple entries during the course of the eTA 2-year validity.

eTA New Zealand Document Requirements for Citizens of Belgium

To apply for the New Zealand eTA visa waiver from Belgium, applicants are required to provide the following documents:

  • passport valid for 3 additional months after the intended exit from New Zealand
  • A filled-out online application form of the NZeTA for Belgium
  • NZeTA and IVL payment by credit or debit card
  • Valid email address

When visiting New Zealand with family members, Belgians must apply separately for each NZeTA, including minors. They may apply on behalf of other family members as long as they make sure to fill out the NZeTA application form with their relative’s passport and personal details.

From October 1st, 2019 onwards, visa-exempt nationals must also obtain an NZeTA before departure if they intend to transit through Auckland International Airport.

New Zealand eTA Application for Belgian Citizens

  • Personal information – date of birth, full name, email address
  • Passport information – passport number, issue and expiry date, nationality
  • Security information – criminal conviction history

This step is crucial since any inaccuracies or mistakes could result in delays during the processing time or in some instances, even in the rejection of the NZeTA.

How long does it take to get the New Zealand eTA from Belgium?

After applicants submit the required information and requirements, New Zealand authorities will go through a thorough screening of all provided documents and information.

However, applicants are advised to apply at least 3 business days before their trip to New Zealand in order to allow sufficient reviewing time in the event that any additional documents are required.

Upon approval of the NZeTA request from Belgium, applicants will receive an email with the approved eTA in PDF format along with its conditions. It is advisable to bring a printed out copy of the NZeTA to the port of entry for border control.

Dual-citizenship applicants should travel to New Zealand with the same passport used to complete the online NZeTA application form.
